HOUSTON – Exxon Mobil Corp. on Friday reported a profit of $45.2 billion for 2008, breaking its own record for a U.S. company, even as its fourth-quarter earnings fell 33 percent from a year ago.
The previous record for annual profit was $40.6 billion, which the world's largest publicly traded oil company set in 2007...
It could be the end of the week before supplies can once again meet the demand. Atlanta and Tallahassee, Fla. also have gas shortages, but AAA said Nashville is in worse shape. The average price for a gallon of regular gas in Nashville Monday was $4.08; in Knoxville, it was $3.53.
My previous post has a link to a story at CNN.com that basically says the gas shortage in Nashville is because of a rumor. It also states that the problem is isolated to Nashville.
From the article:
The phenomenon seemed to be isolated to the Nashville area...
Well, the last time I checked CNN was located in Atlanta and check out this story from Atlanta.
Gas Pumps Running Dry Across Metro Atlanta

My Previous post:
Photo evidence of what CNN calls a rumor.
and I just went out for a little while. Out of at least 15 gas stations only 1 had gas and the line was incredibly long.
The gas station across the street just received a gas delivery. The station did not open today because they didn't expect to have gas until much later. Apparently the clerk left the pumps on since Friday. OOPS! Chaos has begun.
The Peace Makers have arrived!!!
CNN's story about the "rumor" here
Yea CNN I heard a rumor...
What's with the Nashville gas shortage?
This sign at a Nashville, Tennessee gas station says it all.
The gas crisis in the United States is a lot worse than most think.
Last weekend, my sister described a gas frenzy near her home outside
Knoxville, Tennessee. This week, the problem seems to be in Nashville...
Update 2: In less than 45 minutes pumps #2 and #4 are empty and #1 and #3 only have super premium left. The police just left. I wonder if they are going to another station that just got a delivery?
Panic Grips Area During Gas Shortage
AAA: Gas Won't Return To Normal For 1 Week
NASHVILLE -- Many communities gripped by a gas shortage were in panic mode over the weekend, and bad news from AAA did not help to calm them.
AAA said Saturday that supplies may not return to normal until late next week, but until then, they said everyone needs to deal with the crisis in a reasonable manner.
The latest updated comes the day after Gov. Phil Bredesen stated that the colonial pipeline that provides much of the area's supply was at 100 percent capacity.
AAA stated that the pipeline is still experiencing interruptions due to power problems caused by Hurricane Ike.
The higher demand, reserve tanks were drained...
...The manager at one "Daily" gas station said that her bosses sent out a companywide e-mail promising that trucks were on the way with gas and would arrive either Saturday or Sunday. She said she later heard that there were more issues with a pipeline, which she knew meant more long lines...
Nigerian oil rebels hit more facilities
September 17, 2008
LAGOS (AFP) — Armed Nigerian militants who have declared an "oil war" in the restive south of the country claimed Wednesday to have blown up a major pipeline in their latest attack on oil installations in the region.
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), the most prominent of the groups operating in the creeks and swamps of the Niger Delta, said it blew up a pipeline it believes is operated by Royal Dutch Shell and Italy's Agip.
"A very major trunk crude oil pipeline we believe may belong to both Agip and Shell has been blown up today... at about 9:30 am (0830 GMT)... at Rumuekpe, in Rivers state," said MEND in a statement emailed to the media.
The latest attack, a rare daylight one, was not immediately confirmed by the military deployed in the region.
Hours earlier MEND reported having acted with a new ally to have which destroyed a Royal Dutch Shell oil flow station in the African nation's main producing region.
As with other attacks since they declared an "oil war" on Sunday, the rebels moved in with speed boats, dynamite and hand grenades in their attack on the Orubiri flow station, the army said.
The attack on Orubiri was the third on a Shell target in 48 hours. US Chevron has also seen attacks close to its installations this week...
Venezuela and Bolivia have both thrown the US ambassadors out of their countries. Wait, that's not all... long-range Russian bombers just landed in Venezuela. Here is a short video from the BBC. (and yes, this is just another reason to vote for Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States of America)
Wait there's more:
Russians and Venezuelans are having joint military exercises in the Caribbean.
Russia is also dispatching a nuclear cruiser and other warships and planes to the Caribbean for the joint exercises with Venezuela, seen as a direct rebuff to the United States in the first such deployment since the Cold War.
These numbers are from the EIA - Energy Information Administration - Official Energy Statistics from the U.S. Government. Note the numbers from Venezuela
