United States - American Women

Thanks for the earworm. I'm singing it now.

It's sad that any segment of the population has to suffer more than any other. And when I think about women in other parts of the world....*shudder*.....we all have a long way to go to become "civilized".
Lauri, shudder this, in what I guess is called the "Free World" USA women are the worst off concerning poverty levels.
Really?!? Well, that's pretty darn pathetic, isn't it?! :(
When I look at someone like my sister who is now raising her daughter on her own I'm not at all surprised by this. Her ex is getting hitched to another woman, giving up his custody rights and is only on the hook to pay $30 a week towards the raising of his daughter while my sister is struggling with two jobs.
$30 a week... we need more women judges, senators, congresspersons, dare I say President.

dare I say President

There's an idea!
sad
As Valerae said, this is no surprise. Any woman who has quit her salaried job in order to raise her children is in danger of ending up in poverty if her husband dies or decides to quit the marriage. It doesn't matter how smart and educated she is: once you've stepped off of the corporate ladder, even for a short time, you're regarded as lacking ambition or devotion to the company cause. And even if you retrain for another profession, you still have start all over again in middle age, meaning you are more susceptible to layoffs, which can severely affect your ability to save for retirement.

It really makes you want to jump boat and head for nations that are kinder to the elderly and poor. I don't want to end up living under a bridge, selling pencils and eating dinner at a shelter.

Val, sorry to hear about Sal. she and rock'n'roll baby will not only pull through this, but thrive.

good luck to Sal ex's soon-to-be-wife; if she thinks the same won't happen to her...

The news today was that the ex's soon-to-be-wife just dumped him on facebook. So it seems as though she dodged that bullet.
Dumped on Facebook... OUCH! Does he play Mafia Wars? if so I'll teach him a lesson or two. hehehe
I have no idea. I was smart enough not to add him on facebook although it would be entertaining to have seen that drama unfold.
it took me forever to find it (VOX, what'sabout a search tool so we can look for our own posts? le sigh), ... at any rate, here's a post I wrote a while back about the book The Feminist Mistake. the author, Leslie Bennetts, took a beating from daring to note that overall both women and their children suffer economically when they stay home with the children.

Informative commentary. Thank you.
